Old Tennent Cemetery is a privately run cemetery incorporated in New Jersey. It shares the same Board of Directors as the Old Tennent Church, though is run independently of the church.

Cemetery History

The Old Tennent Church was founded in 1692 at "Free Hill" a location about 5 miles from the present-day location of the church and cemetery. The present-day church was built in 1731 and then remodeled in 1751 to accommodate a larger congregation.

There was an earlier cemetery associated with the original church at "Free Hill". It's name is "Old Scots Graveyard" and is still managed by the Old Tennent Cemetery Association. The cemetery surrounding the present-day church saw it's first burial in 1733.

Cemetery Records

Records below were compiled by Anne West using several sources, including tombstone inscriptions, sexton records, and information from Find a Grave. These records include only the cemetery surrounding the present-day church, and not the "Old Scots Graveyard".

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
