History

Alabama National Cemetery held it's first burial on July 25, 2009. It was formally dedicated in 2008. Support buildings for the cemetery were completed in 2011.

The cemetery covers 479 acres and has space for more than 11,000 casketed burials and 4,800 cremations.

At the time NCA purchased the site of Alabama National Cemetery, the property was used for agricultural purposes. It is near the site of Wilson's home, the oldest settlement in Shelby County, which dates back to 1814. The cemetery is also close to the University of Montevallo and the American Village, a patriotic education center.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
