Stone Cemetery
Saint Ignace de Stanbridge, Missisquoi County, Quebec

Galipeau Rd. and S. Church Rd.
Saint Ignace de Stanbridge, Quebec

Contributed by David J. Ellis, Dec 08, 2004, last edited Sep 14, 2011 [davidellis2@verizon.net]. Total records = 91.

From the centre of Saint Ignace de Stanbridge, drive south on S. Church Rd. for 1/2 mile to 100 yds. before reaching the intersection with Galipeau Rd. On a knoll in a field on the left about 200 yds from the road.

We found this cemetery clean, most markers standing, vegetation moderate but not overgrown. Does not appear to be in current use or regularly maintained.

The cemetery located on Lot 4-17 in Stanbridge. That lot was purchased Feb 12, 1820 by Simon Stone and sold on the same day to his son George Stone [Notary Leon Lalanne]. I do not know who owns and maintains it at this time. One can contact the Missisquoi Historical Society for some information.

The entrance is in the North West corner. Rows run North to South, numbered from West to East. Markers numbered within rows from North to South. Missing markers and vacant plots mean that sequential markers may not actually be adjacent, particularly in higher numbered rows. Row 1, markers 3 through 9 are a family plot enclosed by granite posts, drilled to hold a rope or chain. Shared markers are labeled "a" and "b", shared monuments are labeled "N", "S", "E" and "W" to show the direction of the face. Replacement markers may contain information not present on the original marker.

Inventory of markers by Denise Ellis and I on June 10 & 11, 2004, with some corrections by Brenda Birch. It has not been independently verified. Complete inventory of all markers

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
