History

Woodland Cemetery was established in 1841. The movement was initiated by John Van Cleve in 1840. It was originally situated on 40 acres of hillside woods overlooking Dayton. It opened up for burials in 1843.

Today, Woodland Cemetery measures 200 acres in size and makes up one of the nation's oldest "garden" cemeteries. Its Romanesque gateway, chapel and office, completed in 1889, are on the National Register of Historic Places.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
