Carleton Street Cemetery
Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts

GPS: 42.777839, -71.111646

Contributed by Butch Cook, Mar 13, 2006 [texaslonerider@comcast.net]. Total records = 51.

This Cemetery is located just off the intersection of Rte 495 and Rte 97 South. Use Exit 50 South onto Rte 97, then right onto Carleton Street, which runs parallel to Route 495, the cemetery is about a quarter mile, after you turn, on the left.

The cemetery is also called "Haynes Cemetery" by some of the residents and the last burial was in 1969 when Alice Lucille Haynes was buried there. Some residents believe that it was only the Haynes that were buried there in the last century and that is what led to the name "Haynes Cemetery." This appears to be accurate.

The cemetery dates back to the 1600s. Most of the older grave stones are slate and very weather beaten, broken, fragmented, or just missing. Many of the people in this cemetery were part of prominent families who had streets, roads, and even section of the city named after them.

My wife Diana and I, recorded all existing and legible stones and have pictures of each grave. We completed this in Aug of 2005.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
