Cemetery History

Established in 1875, Terrace End Cemetery was originally named, "Settler's Cemetery", and then, "Palmerston Public Cemetery". It was the second public cemetery in Palmerston North. The first cemetery was located on the site that is now the Central Energy Trust Arena. Terrace End Cemetery is closed for sales of new plots, but people with existing family plots may still be buried here.

A fire in August 1885 destroyed many burial records that had been kept up to that time.

Terrace End Cemetery has been administered by Palmerston North City Council since 1902.
