Sunshine Cemetery is located at the corner of Wooldridge Road and Rodd Field Road.

This is a small cemetery, and entirely fenced. There is one gate on the Wooldridge Road side. The Texas Historical Commission placed a plaque commemorating the Sunshine Community in the cemetery, which existed from the late 1800's until the early 1940's. It encompassed this part of what is now Corpus Christi. The small farming and ranching settlement, was also known as Encinal.

The post office and the cemetery are the only physical remnants of the Sunshine Community. The oldest marked grave in the cemetery, is that of Ethel Eva Capeheart, and dated 1903. Tombstones in this cemetery reflect the family names of some of the early settlers who came to the area.

Most stones are gone, so this only reflects all existing and legible stones, when I visited and transcribed this cemetery on Sep 06, 1998.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
