Hopewell Cemetery
Rogersville, Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 55' 24"N, Lon: 80° 18' 18"W
Center Township

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Nov 25, 2007, last edited Feb 21, 2011 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 352.

From west Waynesburg, turn right off of Route 21 West onto Route 18 North. Follow Route 18 North approximately 6.2 miles, passing through the village of Sycamore. Make a left off of Route 18 North onto West Run, where you will shortly come to a railroad crossing. Continue to follow West Run for approximately 1.6 miles until you come to the top of a hill. At the top of the hill, make a right onto Hopewell Ridge Road. The cemetery will be straight ahead on the right side of the road.

Sitting high a top the ridge for which it's named, Hopewell Cemetery offers spectacular views of the surrounding country side. This area is sometimes referred to as Hunters Cave.

The cemetery stands adjacent to the old Hopewell M.E. Church which was established in 1882. Although the church has long since been abandoned, the cemetery is still maintained on a regular basis. Burials still occur here, but very infrequently. I found 35 illegible sand and fieldstone markers.

I walked the cemetery on Mar 29, 2007 and Apr 03, 2007. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    Clear Digital Media, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
