Bowler Cemetery

From Waynesburg follow Route 21 West approximately 6 miles to the town of Rogersville. After crossing the bridge in town, make an immediate left onto Stone Hill Road. The distance now to the gravel lane that leads to the cemetery is 1.4 miles. After driving through Rogersville you will pass through a set of tunnels. Once you exit the tunnels, the road forks. Bear to the left and stay on Stone Hill Road. You will eventually pass by Fields Road on your right. Soon after this road you will see a gravel lane on your right used by a local natural gas company to tend to wells.

The lane is passable with a four wheel drive vehicle. Before arriving at a gas well near the top of the hill on the gravel lane, a grass lane bears off to the left. You may want to park at the gas well and walk the remainder of the way. Follow the grass lane until it ends at a field, where this small cemetery is located.

Despite it's small size and rather remote location, this cemetery is devoid of any weeds or obstructions. It is found in the corner of a hay field and appears to be tended to on occasion. The cemetery offers spectacular views of the surrounding fields and countyside. It is situated on private land currently owned by Cythia Grant. All the stones are upright. The last burial took place in 1999.

I walked the cemetery on Nov 01, 2008. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.
