Take exit 113 (the Wurtsboro exit) off highway 17. Go south on Rte 209 for 2 miles, make a left onto Haven Rd. and an immediate right onto Towpath Rd. At 2/10 of a mile there will be an iron gate obstructing the road. You are at the beginning of the Basha Kill Wildlife Management area. Continue down the towpath walking for approximately 4/10 of a mile and go left onto an old logging road for about 200 feet. The cemetary is up a small rise on the left.

This is a peaceful and beautiful secluded, wooded area, in the hamlet of Haven, which should not be visited during hunting season.

Cemetery land was conveyed by Benjamin E. Brown and Elisabeth, his wife, to Alexander Graham, Supervisor of the Town of Mamakating and his successors in office for life for use and occupation of the Publick for a Publick Burying Ground. This was done on Oct 09, 1851. No burials have occurred in over one hundred years.

Originally compiled by James W. Burbank, historian of Sullivan Cty. on Mar 21, 1949. Now being updated by The Mamakating Historical Society, P.O. Box 163, Summitville, N.Y. 12781, in the year 2004. This is a work in progress

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
