Oakwood Cemetery is owned and operated by Troy Cemetery Association.

History

Established in 1848, Oakwood Cemetery was designed as a park during the rural cemetery movement of the mid-19th century, designed to serve upscale clientele. By the time Troy Cemetery Association begun its search for cemetery grounds, the City of Troy had already grown an upper-class demographic.

The site chosen by the cemetery trustees was 150 acres of land just north of Troy and east of the Village of Lansingburgh. In 1871, the Troy Cemetery Association purchased an additional 150 acres.
