To reach this cemetery The current cemetery is located at the junction of I-25 and the southbound on-ramp from the town of Bernalillo onto I-25.

This cemetery was originally located next to the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church which is on Highway 85 in the town of Bernalillo, Sandoval County, NM. The church and cemetery started about 1850 and burials were both next to the church as well as under the sanctuary. It is not known when a separate cemetery was started nor how many of the original graves were moved. There are still old burials under the church.

Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery is under the jurisdiction of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and is still a very active cemetery and in good condition.

At one time this cemetery was called Bernalillo Cemetery. I have found no record of it and do not know when or why it was changed. Some maps still list it as the Bernalillo Cemetery.

I completed this transcription in the summer of 2007 from information gathered when we walked it in 2006 over a six month period of time (due to continual snow). Besides myself, it was walked by Al Winkeljohn, Sally Goehring, Betty Lamberti, Linda Hobart, Richard Harris and Carolyn MacMillan.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
