To reach this cemetery from I435, take Parallel Parkway east to 85th St. Turn north on 85th St (White Church Rd) and go north about 1 block. The church is on the west side of the street and the cemetery is located behind the church.

Both the White Church and White Church Cemetery were founded in 1831 by Rev. Thomas Johnson and his brother, Rev. William Johnson as part of a Methodist Mission to the Delaware Indians. This is the oldest church in Kansas City, Kansas.

This cemetery is the last resting place for many of the Delaware Indians that were served by the Mission as well as the pioneers involved in service to the Mission and the Delaware tribe.

This cemetery is kept in very good condition. It appears that the Delaware tribe placed granite stones with the marble stones for the Delaware tribal members. Most of the marble stones are still legible. There are a few broken and missing stones, and several blank stones.

I completed this transcription for reading all existing headstones and markers in the fall of 2006.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
