Lat: 33° 36' 52"N, Lon: 86° 37' 19"W

Contributed by Carl W. Dykes, Dec 21, 2006, last edited Jan 15, 2007 [cwdykes@charter.net]. Total records = 128.

To reach this cemetery drive southwest out of Trussville, on Hwy 11. The cemetery itself is directly across the street from the First Presbyterian Church and is sandwiched between the Renasant Bank Building, 285 Calumet Parkway, and the Telco Credit Union Building at 2150 Gadsden Highway.

The garden homes of Calumet Gardens borders the rear of the cemetery property. There is a sign at the entrance which reads only Mount Nebo Cemetery. It has a neat brick fence that fronts Gadsden Highway, a wire mesh fence on the sides and a wooden privacy fence which separates it from the garden homes. Gadsden Highway is also known as Main Street and U.S. Highway 11E in Trussville.

A Jefferson County Historical Commission marker on the front of the First Presbyterian Church, indicates that this cemetery was founded in 1860. The church may have been called Mount Nebo Presbyterian Church at that time. It became Cave Springs Presbyterian Church in 1899 and at some point thereafter became the First Presbyterian Church of Trussville.

The church owns the cemetery and maintains it. The cemetery has apparently been vandalized in the past as there are numerous broken or missing stones. The grave of Sinkler Lathem appears to be the oldest readable stone, 20 Nov 1804-25 May 1870. There may have been older stones at one time. There are numerous rocks marking possible grave sites. There may be as many as 30 graves marked only by rocks.

I completed transcribing this cemetery on Dec 18, 2006. It is a complete listing of all readable stones in the cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
