Location of Cemetery: Springfield in Greene County, Alabama near Eutaw.

Directions: The State of Alabama owns 15.49 acres of land located in Section 4, Township 22 North, Range 2 East. This tract of land is about 6 miles North of Eutaw, Alabama in Springfield (no longer a town) off US 11 on county road and located on it is the Springfield Fire Tower. The John Hall Cemetery is about 25 yards East of said 15.49 acres and is on private property. The Hall cemetery is difficult to find as it is completely overgrown with bushes, vines, etc.

History: Springfield was one of the first towns settled (around 1818) in Greene County, Alabama and for many years was the most prominent place in the county west of the Warrior River. The removal of the county seat in 1838 from Erie to Eutaw wrecked the prosperity of Springfield.

John Hall’s (of Greene County) parents John Hall and Susannah White came from Burke County, North Carolina when John was a small boy and settled in Tennessee. After his father died in 1822, John Hall and his family moved to Springfield where he became a well-known planter . He continued to live there until his death in 1870. He was buried near the old homeplace. Several of his family members including both of his wifes are buried there and is now known as The John Hall Family cemetery.

Hall Family Genealogy: I have considerable genealogy information including copies of wills, photos, etc. on the John Hall line that I would share with any of John Hall’s relatives.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
