Submitting Transcriptions for Quebec Cemeteries

by SteveMonday, August 28, 2006

When submitting a transcription for a cemetery in Quebec, Canada, please be sure to identify the Historical County the cemetery is located in.

Look at our Quebec index page, and you'll notice that we've broken out the Province into "Historical Counties". These are the counties that were in place during the early 1980s. Generally, we don't use the current system of County Regional Municipalities, except in certain cases.

Also note at the bottom of our Quebec index page, we've listed two County Regional Municipalities, those in the Cote Nord region. We did this because we cannot seem to identify the Historical Counties in that area.

Please note that if you are planning to produce a transcription of a Quebec cemetery, be sure to identify the historical county.

  • Located on over 200 acres of lush forest and landscaped lawns, Mt. Washington Forever is a Historical Landmark.
The final resting place of some of Kansas City areas most Notable Figures, home of some of the most elaborate private family mausoleums in the state. Even before the cemetery was founded in 1900 the property was widely renowned for its natural beauty and was used as an amusement park and botanical garden for decades. The oldest person here: Duke W. Simpson, born in 1795, who was a blacksmith in Westport. Along with William Rockhill Nelson (Star Newspaper), The McCoy's (first Westport trading post owner), John Long, Margaret Swope, William Waggoner, Edward P. Gates, Col. Bertrand Rockwell, Annie Bird, Wallace Pratt, Rev. Nathan Scarritt, and so many more. Today there are over 60,000 in Mt. Washington,
I'm sure we have someone you know.

The History here and there is a lot of history here, dating back to the early 1800's.

    "Go West Young Man"
Independence was the first viable jumping-off point for the Overland Trails. But it wasn't ideal. By the 1840s, the Westport Landing had emerged as the leading jumping-off point simply because it was easier. The landings in Independence were not terribly convenient. The Westport Landing, however, had a nice rock landing. The Oregon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, the Pony Express, and so much more started here, around Kansas City. Also a big part of the Civil War and the Rail Road.
