Background: Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery was established in 1888 as part of the Wisconsin Veterans Home, one of the oldest state veterans’ homes in the nation. The cemetery was created to provide a resting place for the residents of the home, Civil War veterans and later veterans of subsequent conflicts, who spent their final years at the facility. Managed by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, the cemetery has grown over time to accommodate burials from all eras.
