Background:

The land for Greenwood Cemetery was donated by the Hilts and Johnston families. The first burials were in 1888.

Greenwood School (Hunters Creek School) District 17, 1-8 grades was also located on the land. It served from 1888 until 1939 when they consolidated with Hunters School, the building was removed some time after that.

Greenwood Cemetery is operated by its elected officers and five elected trustees. The original land was surveyed in 1908 and was officially recorded and incorporated November 3, 1924. Some time later the organization applied for and received a nonprofit status.

The cemetery is completely fenced and has it's own well.
