Directions: Salkum Cemetery is a short distance and 15 minutes from I-5. Take exit 68 from I-5 and head East on Hwy 12 12.4 miles. Turn right onto Wilcox Road. Follow Wilcox Rd 0.3 miles to cemetery, at end of Wilcox Road – right after Salkum Community Church.

Background: The town of Salkum was established in the 1880s with a post office beginning in 1882 and served by sawmills and timber activities into the early 20th century. The name "Salkum" comes from a Native American (Cowlitz) word meaning "boiling up", referring to local waterfalls on Mill Creek. The cemetery is reported to have originated as two separate Mt. Hope Cemetery (sometimes called New Hope), and Mount Moriah Cemetery (which was associated with the Masonic lodge. The oldest marked grave was from 1885 and the cemetery is still actively used.
