Background: Samuel Hill is the founder of the Maryhill Museum of Art, located about a mile west of Maryhill. Hill was also responsible for erecting the "Maryhill Stonehenge". He died in 1931 and his ashes were placed inside this crypt. The original crypt had deteriorated after 25 years and was replaced by the current granite monument.
