Directions: Located within the community of Port Gamble, the cemetery sits along the north side of Walker St., between Kitsap Ave. and Puget Way.

Background: Buena Vista Cemetery was established by the mid-1850s to serve the newly founded mill town and is among the oldest burial grounds in Kitsap County. The earliest known burials date to 1856, consisting of sawmill workers, their families, early settlers, mariners, and children, many of whom died from illness, accidents, or the rigors of 19th-century industrial and coastal life. Historically, the cemetery was associated with the Port Gamble mill community and land holdings of the Pope & Talbot lumber company, which controlled much of the town.
