Directions: Located along the east side of State Highway 305 in Bainbridge Island. Entrance is along Highway 305 (north direction), about 300 feet north of the intersection with Port Madison Rd.

Background: Seabold Cemetery was established in 1889 by John Thomas Johnson, a Norwegian immigrant and one of the earliest settlers in the Seabold community at the northern end of Bainbridge Island. Johnson donated approximately one acre of his homestead land for the community’s burial ground to provide a formal resting place for local pioneer families. The cemetery’s earliest burials includes that of infant Henry Melling who died in 1889. Over the years the ownership of the cemetery land passed through a few private hands and community stewardship arrangements: it was deeded in 1907 on behalf of the Seabold Community Church, later transferred to the Church of Seabold, and then, in 1957, was conveyed by quit claim deed to the Seabold Cemetery Corporation, which has overseen its operation since.
