Background: Prospect Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro, Vermont, was established in 1796 as the Village Burying Ground and later expanded through 1869 as the town’s primary burial site. The cemetery spans about 12½ acres and holds roughly 3,000 burials, including a Soldiers’ Lot for 18 Civil War soldiers who died at the Union Hospital in Brattleboro. Originally managed by the Prospect Hill Cemetery Association, ownership and oversight now rest with the Town of Brattleboro.
