Background: Texas State Cemetery was founded in 1851 and measures 18 acres in size. It was first conceived as a cemetery for lawmakers and public servants, but the Cemetery has evolved into a burial ground for Texans who have made significant contributions to state's history and culture. Most of the burials here are Civil War soldiers.
