Background: The original Mountain Home National Cemetery was established in 1903 on the grounds of the Mountain Home veterans home in Johnson City, Tennessee, to provide a dedicated burial ground for veterans who resided at the home. The cemetery was created during a period of significant expansion of federal veterans’ care facilities. As plots began to reach capacity, an "Annex" of the same name was established about 1/2 mile south.
