Directions: Located along the western border of Hot Springs city limits, the cemetery straddles the border itself, it's main entrance is at the end of Ely Ave, to the west of the veterans home.

Background: The veterans home cemetery holds the remains of veterans who lived at the facility, which was originally opened in 1889 under the name Dakota Soldier's Home. Though it has a long and significant history as part of the veterans’ care system in South Dakota, the cemetery is now closed to new burials, with interments instead taking place at the nearby Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In 1998 the home was renamed to "Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home".
