Background: CNMI (Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands) Veterans Cemetery began with a grant of $1,666,980.00 from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in August 2005. Construction began the following month, September 2005. The cemetery opened on November 11, 2006. On October 2, 2017, the U.S. Departement of Veterans Affairs approved a $3.2 million grant to expand and improve the cemetery.
