Background: Gallup State Veterans Cemetery had its opening day ceremony on May 27, 2019 as the second veterans cemetery operated by the state. It's first burial was conducted on July 10, 2019.

The cemetery will initially provide 448 gravesites, 140 in-ground cremains burial sites, and 400 columbarium wall crypts. The 2.5-acre site, was funded by a $5.7 million VA Cemetery Program Grant.
