Directions: Located near the south-eastern edge of Lake Forest city limits, take Western Ave south and exit to Westleigh Rd, then follow this to Sheridan south. From Sheridan Rd, turn left on Vattman Rd and follow this into the cemetery.

Background: Fort Sheridan National Cemetery was established in 1889, two years after Fort Sheridan was officially founded. The cemetery was administered by the US Army up until December 2019 when it was transferred to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The cemetery has interred in its grounds Veterans from the civil war up to more recent conflicts. Interments also include World War II era German POW's who were held at both Fort Sheridan and nearby Camp Grant.
