Cemeteries in Bingham County (County)
Idaho, United States
Bingham County, located in eastern Idaho, was established in 1885 and named for Henry H. Bingham, a Pennsylvania congressman and Civil War veteran.
The region was originally home to the Shoshone and Bannock peoples, whose presence continues today through the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, which occupies part of the county. European-American settlers began arriving in the 1860s and 1870s, drawn by opportunities in agriculture, mining, and transportation. The arrival of the Utah and Northern Railway in nearby Blackfoot helped transform the area into a regional hub. Early settlers were primarily of English, German, and Scandinavian descent, and religious life was shaped by Protestant and Mormon communities. Agriculture, especially potatoes and livestock, became the backbone of the local economy. Blackfoot, the county seat, is known as the "Potato Capital of the World."
Cemeteries such as Grove City Cemetery and those on the Fort Hall Reservation reflect the area’s diverse settler and Indigenous heritage.
