Cemeteries in Ada County (County)

Idaho, United States
Ada County, located in southwestern Idaho, was established in 1864 and named for Ada Riggs, the daughter of H.C. Riggs, one of Boise’s founders.

The region was originally inhabited by the Shoshone and Bannock peoples before the arrival of fur traders and settlers following the discovery of gold in the nearby Boise Basin during the early 1860s. Boise, the county seat, soon became the territorial capital and remains the state capital today. Early European-American settlers were largely of English, Irish, German, and Scandinavian descent. The expansion of irrigation and railroads in the late 19th century helped transform Ada County into a center for agriculture, trade, and governance. Protestant churches dominated early religious life, followed by Catholic and Mormon congregations. Ada County has been governed under Idaho state jurisdiction since statehood in 1890.

Cemeteries such as Morris Hill and Pioneer Cemetery in Boise reflect the county’s frontier origins and civic development.
