Cemeteries in Idaho (State)
United States
Idaho, located in the Pacific Northwest, became the 43rd state of the United States in 1890.
Originally home to Indigenous peoples including the Nez Perce, Shoshone, and Coeur d’Alene tribes, the region remained relatively isolated until explored by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805. Fur trading posts and missionary settlements followed in the early 19th century, and Idaho was part of Oregon Territory before becoming its own territory in 1863. European-American settlers, primarily of English, German, and Scandinavian descent, were drawn to the area during the mid-1800s gold rush and later for farming and ranching opportunities. The arrival of the railroad in the 1880s spurred population growth and economic development. Idaho's religious roots included Protestant denominations and, later, Catholic and Mormon communities. Governed under U.S. territorial authority until statehood, Idaho is now known for its agriculture and natural landscapes.
Historic cemeteries such as Pioneer Cemetery in Boise reflect its frontier heritage.
