Background: South Florida National Cemetery, the fifth national cemetery in Florida and the 125th in the national cemetery system, was established on former farmland and cattle grazing land purchased by the National Cemetery Administration in 2002. Located in Palm Beach County—a region whose development was significantly influenced by Henry Flagler’s east coast railway—the cemetery opened for burials in 2007 and was formally dedicated on March 9, 2008.
