Background: Pikes Peak National Cemetery, located on 374 acres in southeast Colorado Springs, was established to serve the burial needs of over 95,000 veterans and their families for the next century. The VA purchased the land, formerly known as Rolling Hills Ranch, in January 2014 for $4.49 million, and awarded a design contract in 2015 to AES Group, a veteran-owned firm. Construction began in October 2017, with the initial 65-acre phase providing approximately 13,300 gravesites. The cemetery was officially dedicated on May 25, 2018, and the first burials took place on November 1, 2018.
