Riverside County was officially formed on May 9, 1893, from portions of San Diego and San Bernardino counties. Indigenous peoples including the Serrano, Payómkawichum, Mohave, Cupeno, Chemehuevi, Cahuilla, and Tongva inhabited the region originally.
