Background: Holy Cross Cemetery was established as the parish graveyard for Saint Boniface Church, Anaheim, California, in 1903. It is the second Holy Cross Cemetery, the first having been established in 1876 at a location closer to the church. By 1920, all graves from the first cemetery had been moved, either to this new one or to other Catholic cemeteries in the area.
A fire in the mid 1950s destroyed many headstones, particularly wooden ones. Management of this cemetery was transferred to the Catholic Diocese of Los Angeles in the 1940s, because Saint Boniface parish could no longer afford the upkeep. It is now part of the Diocese of Orange County.
