Background: Home of Peace Memorial Park was established around 1855–1858, and originally located in Chavez Ravine by the Hebrew Benevolent Society. As the city grew and the original site became impractical, philanthropist Kaspare Cohn donated 30 acres in East Los Angeles, and the new cemetery was formally dedicated in May 1902. Between 1902 and 1910, over 360 burials were relocated from Chavez Ravine to the new grounds. In 1908, a streetcar line was extended to the cemetery, even offering a special funeral car for processions.
