Background: Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery, originally established as Rosedale Cemetery in 1884, occupies a historic 65-acre site in the West Adams district of Los Angeles. It was among the first cemeteries in Southern California designed in the “lawn park” style, featuring curving drives and lush landscaping, and it was also the first in Los Angeles to welcome people of all races and faiths for burial. In 1887, it became home to the first crematory west of the Rocky Mountains. Over time, the cemetery became the resting place of many of Los Angeles’s earliest civic leaders, artists, and pioneers. In 1993, it was renamed Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery following its acquisition by Angelus Funeral Home.
