Directions: Located just inside Glendora's side of the border with Azusa, the cemetery sits at the end of Shorey Drive in the La Fetra community of Glendora.

Background: Fairmount Cemetery is an old pioneer cemetery that dates back as early as 1840, reportedly starting out as a Native American burial site. The land it sits on was once part of Rancho Azusa, owned by its original Spanish land owner, Luis Arena.

Arena sold off his land to Henry Dalton, an area pioneer, in 1844. The Fairmount Cemetery began its formal history in 1876, when James Carson, who eventually acquired some of Dalton's property, donated the parcel as a public graveyard.

Some 250 or more of the area's early pioneers are interred in the cemetery, including veterans from the Civil and Spanish American wars. Today, only about 85 burial markers remain standing.

Fairmount Cemetery sits in an area that settlers used to call, "San Felipe Hill". Today, it sits in the middle of newly developed residences. It's currently owned by the City of Azusa, but maintained by a court-appointed group called, "Fairmount Cemetery Trustees".

In 1991, the Trustees managed to get Fairmount Cemetery distinguished as a historic landmark by the City of Glendora in an effort to protect it from nearby development.
