Background: Liberty Veterans Cemetery was founded on May 30, 1918 (Memorial Day). When it was founded, it incorporated the burying grounds of Fresno's Post 92, Department of California and Nevada, Grand Army of the Republic, and that of the United Spanish War Veterans of Fresno. The former was established in 1896 when the first burying ground for Post 92 was nearing capacity.
