Cemeteries in Oroville (City)

Butte County, California, United States
Oroville, the county seat of Butte County, California, was founded in 1856 as a supply and gold panning center during the California Gold Rush. The name "Oroville," meaning "gold town," reflects its origins in placer mining along the Feather River.

Originally home to the Maidu people, the area became part of Mexican territory before transitioning to U.S. control in 1850. Oroville attracted a diverse population, including Chinese, Irish, and Italian immigrants, many of whom worked in mining, railroads, and local agriculture. The construction of Oroville Dam in the 1960s marked a new era of development and water management.

Cemeteries such as Oroville Memorial Park and the historic Chinese Cemetery preserve the stories of the city’s early settlers and immigrant communities.
