Directions: To reach the church and churchyard, take California Highway 49 to Sutter Creek. Going north on 49 toward Placerville, turn left on Amelia Street. The church is on the corner of Amelia and Spanish Streets. Coming from Placerville, it will be a right turn.
Background: Immaculate Conception Church was built between 1860-1861, and was originally named St. Mary's Church. In 1881 it was renamed to Immaculate Conception.
Burials took place around the time the Church was built. Additional land was purchased in 1888 from George Allen.
The earliest tombstones are from 1858 and the most recent from 1982. Most of the graves are from the 1860s, 1870s and 1880s.
