Cemeteries in Washington County (County)

Arkansas, United States
Washington County, established in 1828, is located in the northwestern corner of Arkansas and was among the earliest settled regions in the Ozark Mountains.

Originally home to the Osage and other Indigenous peoples, the area attracted settlers from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri, primarily of Scots-Irish and English descent. The county seat, Fayetteville, became an educational and cultural center with the founding of the University of Arkansas in 1871. Though largely agricultural in its early years, Washington County grew into a regional hub for education, commerce, and poultry farming. The population has since diversified with Latino, Marshallese, and other immigrant communities.

Cemeteries such as Evergreen Cemetery in Fayetteville and historic rural churchyards across the county preserve the legacy of pioneer families, Civil War veterans, and the evolving cultural makeup of this historically significant region.
