Cemeteries in Anniston (City)

Calhoun County, Alabama, United States
Anniston, located in Calhoun County, Alabama, was founded in 1872 as a private, planned industrial community by Samuel Noble and Daniel Tyler.

Originally established to support the Woodstock Iron Company, the town was opened to the public in 1883 and quickly grew as a center for iron production, railroads, and later, military activity. The city attracted settlers from across the South and immigrants from Europe, particularly England and Germany, who helped shape its industrial and civic development. Anniston became known for its wide boulevards and cultural institutions, earning the nickname “The Model City.”

Cemeteries such as Hillside Cemetery reflect the lives of its early industrialists, civic leaders, and soldiers who contributed to the city's complex legacy.
