Guests should access the cemetery via the main gate from D88 along Rue de la Rondenolle.

Background: The 45th Infantry Division liberated the Epinal area on September 21, 1944. A temporary cemetery was established here 15 days later. Subsequently, the ground was selected to be a permanent cemetery site. After the war, bodies in the temporary cemetery were disinterred and then reinterred at the permanent cemetery site. Persons buried here lost their lives in the fighting across central France, the Rhone Valley, the Vosges Mountains, the Rhine Valley, and Germany. They represent 42% of the original burials throughout this region.

Construction of the permanent cemetery at Epinal was completed in the Spring of 1956, and dedicated on 23 July 1956.
