Cemetery History

Rock City Cemetery was originally a part of the Memorial Lutheran Church located directly across the highway. The church was established in 1868. The land for the burial ground was acquired from John G. Schultz and measured 108 feet by 128 feet.

On May 28, 1917, ownership of the cemetery was spun off into its own incorporated entity as, "Memorial Lutheran Cemetery Association of Rock City, Inc." Later that year, an additional 1/3 acre was obtained from Norman Cookingham.

Today, the cemetery is owned by Rock City Cemetery Association, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
