Originally known as "Smithville Methodist Episcopal Cemetery", this cemetery now goes by the name of its adjacent church.

The church congregation was established in 1790 with the original building located next to the Smithville Inn in the historic portion of town. Due to the heavy noise, the congregation chose to move its building to the present-day location. The original church building burned down. The present-day church building was erected in 1869.

Richard Leeds, the original preacher for Smithville, died in 1857 at the age of 85 and is buried directly behind the church, closest to the pulpit.

This is not the same cemetery as, "Smithville Historic Cemetery".

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
