Herbert/Otepopo Cemetery
Waitaki, Otago Province, New Zealand

Originally known as Otepopo Cemetery, it is located on Mount Charles, above Herbert township. A very steep climb from the already elevated township, could be within walking distance to the fit however situated at end of Fraserburgh St., which is approximately 1km from the town itself.

Many of the earliest headstones were made of local Oamaru stone which breaks down as it lies in the ground. A cemetery trust was established in 1869 and still operates and is looking to refurbishing many of these earlier stones.

This is not a complete listing of burials! Records below were provided by contributors to Interment.net. last edited Jan 15, 2007. Total records = 11.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
