Klondyke Cemetery (Doris/Timeu Cemetery)
Woodlands, Alberta, Canada

Doris, Alberta
NW7- 63-4-W5

Contributed by Lorna Penchuk, Nov 01, 2002 [lpen@vennercs.com]. Total records = 56.

It is 23 km. North of Fort Assiniboine on Highway 661 on the right hand side of the road where a "Y" intersection leads to Timeu and the Klondyke Ferry crossing.

In 1921 Elmer Nickols and family came to the Klondyke City area from Nebraska in covered wagons, a trip which took them about four months. The following spring Elmer filed on his homestead located at NW7-Tp63-Rge4-W5 and built a log house. Three short years after their arrival, Mrs. Elmer Nickols died in childbirth, as did the infant. Both were buried in the corner of their yard on the homestead.

Elmer planted spruce trees here when his wife and child died, some of which are still standing. He later donated this area to the local community for a cemetery. On the opening of a Post Office in 1931 the area was renamed Doris and the cemetery was then known as the Doris, Timeu Cemetery.

In the late 1980's or early 1990's, this cemetery was renamed Klondyke Cemetery. The cemeteries upkeep is done by the local community members, who have family buried there.

I have compiled this from tombstone transcriptions and it contains a full and complete list of all known burials as of Nov 01, 2002. The history of the cemetery was compiled on Jul 30, 2002.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
