Directions: Located inside U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, the cemetery is located along the east side of the bay inlet. From the intersection of Sherman Rd and Boat Shed Rd, in the GTMO base center, follow Boat Shed Rd down to the beach, the cemetery is along this route, close to the beach.
Background: Cuzco U.S. Naval Cemetery has an official establish date of 1940. Most of its inhabitants were originally buried in cemeteries throughout Guantanamo Bay. They were transferred to here in 1944 when the Base Commander ordered all other burial grounds be cleared away and consolidated into one location. Most of its inhabitants are non US-military personnel, including civilians who worked at Guantanamo Bay, and foreigners who died here in years past. The cemetery is on the site of the famed, Battle of Cuzco Wells in 1898. Currently there are three hundred and thirty-five people buried here. It's also known as, "Cuzco Wells Cemetery" and "Cuzco U.S. Naval Cemetery".
